In Leicester’s north-western region, Beaumont Leys is a suburban area and an electoral ward. It’s a great place to live in, especially if you are working in Leicester city centre, with it being only a 12-minute drive away and 15 minutes via public transport. There is no doubt that Beaumont Leys is a lovely place to stay, regardless of whether or not you are looking to move here or just stay for a couple of days.

Amenities

The main feature of this area is the Beaumont Shopping Centre, one of the largest shopping centres in the suburbs of the city. Additionally, the area has a large leisure centre, a library, a church, a police station, and a library. A number of smaller shopping precincts are located on land that used to be occupied by farms before the areas became commercialised.

In the event that you are not able to find what you are looking for in Beaumont Leys, you may consider taking the bus into Leicester City Centre instead.

Things to do in Beaumont Leys

Although Beaumont Leys is a small suburban area, there are lots to see and do, whether you are thinking of moving there or just passing by. Here are some ideas:

Beaumont Shopping Centre: This shopping centre on the edge of Leicester is a great place to stock up on your everyday essentials. They also host an open market from Wednesday-Sunday with 60+ stalls offering a huge selection of products on sale, such as fruit and vegetables, DVDs and general bric-a-brac stalls. 

Leicester Leys Leisure Centre: If you’re into your fitness or enjoy swimming with the family, then this leisure centre is ideal. As part of this centre, there is a leisure pool with a wave machine, an activity pool, a toddler pool and a baby pool, as well as a climbing wall, a gym, and a wide range of activities that can be done there.

Beaumont Park: Located close to Beaumont Leys Shopping Centre, Beaumont Park is a large landscaped open space with small woodlands scattered throughout. The site is peppered with wildlife areas and woodlands. There are also nice pathways in the park and plenty of seating for people to take a break and enjoy the open space.

Transport

Beaumont Leys is a fantastic location for commuters. It’s only a short 3.3 miles to Leicester City Centre and a 20-minute bus journey if you leave from the Beaumont Shopping Centre. There are also frequent buses going around the area, so you won’t need to worry about getting by if you don’t drive.

Schools

The area is home to several schools, such as Babington Academy and Beaumont Leys School. The latter has since been rebuilt with a City Learning Centre added adjacent to it in 2009, becoming a specialised science school. A number of good primary schools are located in the area, including Beaumont Lodge Primary School, Heatherbrook Primary School and Glebelands Primary School.
